About lit.pet
lit.pet is a small independent site about one narrow problem: dogs are very hard to see in the dark, and drivers need more warning than most owners realise.
Why this exists
Between October and February in much of the northern hemisphere, both daily walks happen in the dark. An unlit dog on a country lane or an unlit street is close to invisible until headlights are almost on top of it — and a dark-coated dog is the worst case, because reflective strips need light to bounce back and dark fur absorbs most of it.
There is decent, cheap gear that fixes this. There is also a great deal of near-identical gear with interchangeable names and inflated claims, which makes choosing harder than it should be. This site exists to shorten that decision.
How products are chosen
We work from listings, manufacturer specifications and the pattern of owner reviews — favouring rechargeable over disposable batteries, stated water resistance for wet-weather walking, straps that adjust or trim to fit properly, and designs with a long enough track record to judge. Anything with a recurring complaint about the charging port, the clasp or the light failing early gets left out.
To be clear about what this is: these are researched recommendations, not laboratory results. We don’t publish measured battery runtimes or visibility distances, because we haven’t measured them — and numbers we can’t stand behind are worth less than none. Where a specification comes from a manufacturer, treat it as their claim rather than a verified fact.
What we don’t publish
No prices and no star ratings. Amazon only permits those to be displayed from a live data feed, and a stale price is worse than no price, so the button sends you to the current one instead. Product photography belongs to its owners, so we don’t reuse it.
How the site makes money
Affiliate commission from Amazon when a reader buys through one of our links. It costs you nothing extra. No brand pays for placement, sends us free samples, or has any say in what appears here — and commission in this category is a few percent of a cheap product, so there is no version of this where recommending worse gear pays better than being useful.
